What's The Story In Balamory?

Dec 02, 2025
Socials:

If you are old enough to remember the show, you should have some money saved up by now. Hopefully, you're well into your saving and investing days, but everyone is at different stages. Don’t be discouraged: most people in the UK have very little saved.

We got the above from Raisin, that platform where we find savings accounts, including some that are Shariah-compliant. If you haven’t started saving (and investing), our next coaching cohort starts in the next few weeks!

Anyway, onto the stuff you're here for:

Islamic Investing Updates

iShares introducing dividend purification on (all/some?) of their Islamic funds

Did you see this? Some of the iShares Islamic funds are going to start doing purification from January 2026… Phew, that makes life easier. Now, if only they were accumulation, we could have some serious competition for the HSBC funds.
Though if you have automatic dividend investing, what’s the difference anyway?

Qardus giving up its FCA regulation:

Not the best news. It always makes me more comfortable when a firm is regulated by the FCA, even if it’s just as an Appointed Representative and not directly authorised. I suspect the costs involved with regulation, and the general hassle that comes with it, have pushed Qardus to drop it.

I believe this will mean “normal” investors won’t be able to invest using Qardus going forward. Maybe it won’t be missed by most, I still don’t think many people were actively using the platform. Having said that, I haven’t checked on my investments on Qardus in a while… probably time to log in and see how they’re doing (update next time!).

FSCS limits up!

Bayuti says some of their properties are now fully funded...

Rates down at Gatehouse Bank

I am being punished for taking easy-access accounts on money I don’t need for 6 months… That’s what happens when you don’t practise what you preach.

Looks like nester may be raising a round of investment!

Still a bit early,  not much detail yet other than it’s only open to Certified High Net Worth Individuals…

What do we actually do now?
Can’t believe it took us this long to pinpoint what we are teaching at Nisba. Funnily enough we didn’t even figure it out ourselves. A client kindly told us.  I’ve always found the concept of investing quite easy. You can listen to a 1 minute video and they’ll say “buy this equity fund, stick it in an ISA” that’s how you start investing. Sure enough that’s how many people start, find an Islamic...
All that Gold does not Glitter
It's been a tough month for commodities. Depending on the exact time you check, and how the market moves between us writing this letter and you reading it, gold is down around 10% over the past month, and silver is down 20%. When we talk about historical returns for equities and certain commodities, we talk about 7 to 10% per year. Some people are down that entire amount, or double that amount,...
The halal investing space is getting busier
Something has shifted in the halal investing space over the last 12 months, and you can feel it just by looking at who's entering the market. In just the fund space, we've seen the likes of Baillie Gifford, Invesco, HSBC, and Franklin Templeton launch a new sharia-compliant fund or are in the process of launching one. Businesses love to grow into new areas, especially ones that are experiencing...
